In the framework of the BleuTourMed project (Horizontal project from the Interreg MED 2014-2020 Programme, co-funded by the European Fund for Regional Development), Plan Bleu participated in the organization of the 2nd MED Community building on Sustainable tourism on 4th & 5th October 2017 in Athens (Greece).
This event held by the Panteion University- partner to the BleuTourMed project- allowed for the 14 community projects to share their methodologies on:
- Tourism stakeholders’ involvement on the projects’ pilot sites
- Sustainability assessment of the existing tourism practices in the Mediterranean region
- Development of alternative and innovative tourism models
- Projects implementation of the pilot sites on Western, Eastern Mediterranean and Adriatic-Ionian region.
This workshop was the occasion for the community to identify their priorities for a transition toward responsible and sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean region and to commit themselves around a joint declaration.
Information on the working groups :
- Working group n°1: Involving tourism stakeholders’ on the projects’ pilot sites
The members of the working group on the topic regarding the stakeholders’ involvement within the pilot sites discussed the issues regarding the stakeholders participation in the development of the planned activities on the theme projects’ pilot sites, as well as the difficulties encountered sometimes in order to hire those local stakeholders.
- Working group n°2: Sustainability assessment of tourism acitvities in the Mediterranean region
The participants were invited to share the methods implemented by the different projects to measure the tourism systems sustainability in different sectors, such as cruise tourism, catering, ecotourism or even water management.
- Working group n°3: Developing alternative and innovative tourism models
This working group was the occasion for its participants to discuss the methods used for the development on the field of new tourism models, for a more responsible and sustainable tourism, and to exchange around the main issues the projects encountered.
- Working group n°4: Implementing the projects on the pilot sites on Western, Eastern Mediterranean and Adriatic-Ionian region
This last working group worked on the projects implementation zones in the different Northern Mediterranean regions in order to get a general overview of the activities carried out by the projects in each of these regions and to identify the challenges linked to the studied zones’ geographical location.
