Nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation in the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean coasts are increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events, pollution or unsustainable resource use and habitat degradation. This report has been developed in the frame of the GEF MedProgramme SCCF Project, and places a particular focus on the two pilot sites Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Region in Morocco and Kotor Bay in Montenegro.
It aims to spotlight the role of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) for coastal adaptation, highlighting different interlinkages with climate risk mitigation, Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), or food and water security support.
The report presents and integrates the training module, results and recommendations from two regional trainings on Nature-based Solutions and Ecosystem-based Adaptation in Kotor, Montenegro (3-4 October 2024) and in Tanger, Morocco (4-5 November 2024).
