Workshop on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM)

Antibes-Juan les Pins (France), 24 September 2015: In the framework of their partnership, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Plan Bleu organized a brainstorming and knowledge sharing workshop on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).

In the framework of a partnership between the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Plan Bleu, a brainstorming and knowledge sharing workshop on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) was held in Antibes-Juan-les Pins on 24th September 2015. Specifically, the workshop aimed to define the objectives of this partnership on the ICZM theme in the framework of those territories balanced development, by: (i) taking account of societal and environmental issues at the earliest stage of the coastal territories process management and (ii) the operationalisation of the proposed strategic recommendations.

This workshop took place within a celebration context of several simultaneous anniversaries, including the 50th anniversary of the National Trust’s Neptune Programme, the 40th Anniversary of the Conservatoire du Littoral, the 40th Anniversary of the Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP), the 30th Anniversary of the Regional Activity Center for Specially Protected Areas (SPA/RAC), the 20thAnniversary of APAL (National Agency for Coastal Protection), the 20th Anniversary of FGEF and the 10thAnniversary of the PIM initiative.

The organization of the AFD-Plan Bleu workshop on ICZM theme fitted also into the Antibes Coastal Meetings and the Mediterranean Coast Daythat were held this year in Antibes (France) by PAP/RAC with the support of the Europe and International Delegation of the Coastal and Lake Shore Conservation Authority.

The Antibes Declarationwhich was developed based on the meeting conclusions reflects the commitment of these agencies and of countries bordering the Mediterranean towards the protection of the coast. It will be brought to the attention of the United Nations Climate Change Conference during the UNFCC COP21, that will be held in Paris next December.
