The Tunisian Institute for Strategic Studies (ITES) and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) organized the first edition of the Sea Forum – Bizerte 2018, 20 and 21 October 2018 in Bizerte, Tunisia. This annual meeting is part of the “Blue Season” which brought together nearly 150 events promoting the Tunisian coast from June 15 to October 30, 2018. It aims to gather key players in the maritime sector and the blue economy in the Euro-Mediterranean area, but also to warn about the environmental challenges facing the Mediterranean Sea.
The main objectives are:
- to include key issues of environmental conservation, conservation and exploitation of oceans and seas, the fight against climate change and a sustainable approach to the blue economy at the top of the political agenda,
- to develop a network of Euro-Mediterranean actors (experts, politicians and civil society) to share expertise and good practices.
The first day was dedicated to thematic workshops on four main topics: 1) marine environment, 2) industries, investments and maritime infrastructure, 3) new sea borders, and 4) maritime leisure and culture.
The second day brought together in a plenary session high political personalities, great witnesses and iconic figures in the fields of the environment and the sea. During this session, Elen Lemaitre-Curri, Plan Bleu’s Director, intervened to present the environmental challenges of the blue economy.
