Plan Bleu’s activity report

2023 was a very active year for Plan Bleu. Focal points meeting, the meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development in June in Marseille, finalization of the 2022-2023 work program, the preparation of that relating to the 2024-2025 biennium, COP 23 of the Barcelone Convention in Portoroz in Slovenia, publications on the coast, adaptation to climate change, coastal tourism, environmental easements, offshore wind power, unconventional use of water. The 2024-2025 biennium also promises to be very busy with, in particular, the publication of the MED 2050 foresight report on the future of the Mediterranean, on which Plan Bleu has been working for several years, the preparation of the new Mediterranean Sustainable Development Strategy ( 2026-2035), support for the publication of several reports from the Mediterranean Expert Network on Climate Change (MedECC), etc. In addition, Plan Bleu will contribute to the preparation of the United Nations Conference on the Oceans which will take place in Nice in June 2025. The Mediterranean will of course play a major role there. We welcome this historic opportunity to advance issues relating to sustainable development in the Mediterranean.
