SCCF MedProgramme: Regional Training on Nature-based Solutions for Coastal Adaptation

On October 3-4, Plan Bleu, hosted a regional training on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for coastal adaptation in Kotor, Montenegro.

A key objective of this training was to deepen knowledge about climate risks in the region and find ways to address these effectively. It also aimed to showcase existing coastal adaptation efforts in the region that already integrate NbS.

NbS in coastal wetlands were highlighted by a presentation by Alexandra Ivanovic on the Tivat Salinas Project, which goes hand in hand with another contribution by Marion Douchin from Tour du Valat, on the RESCOM project for coastal wetlands.

The highlighted regional efforts were accompanied by in-depth presentations to find synergies that further accelerate existing efforts and find ecosystem-based approaches for coastal adaptation.
In the context of the SCCF project our colleagues from PAP/RAC touched on the Coastal Management Plan for Boka Kotorska and ongoing projects on our second pilot site in Morocco. The landscape approach was introduced and the promising Mediterranean Forest Initiative was presented by Christine Haffner-Sifakis to find further links with Montenegro’s national parks.

About 20 people participated in this training and we would like to express our gratitude to them for their valuable contribution to this event.

A similar training on NbS for coastal adaptation will be held on November 5-6 in Tanger, Morocco.
