Summer school “Blue growth: emerging technologies, trends and opportunities”

The Blue Growth Community organises the Summer School “Blue Growth: emerging technologies, trends and opportunities” to encourage young people involvement in blue economy sectors by offering high-quality technical knowledge and fostering their entrepreneurial spirit.

Blue Economy represents an extraordinary opportunity for growth, cultural, social and economic development in the Mediterranean with a significant potential for job creation and investment in the area. Nevertheless, there is a serious lack of education and training for maritime field students and workers for efficient capacity building skills, a relevant matching of proficiency regarding the expectations of the job market, and an improved integration of Blue Economy science into practice and policy.

The Interreg MED Blue Growth Community, involving Plan Bleu as a key partner, is organizing from 1st to 5th July 2019, in Kotor, Montenegro, a

summer school

aiming at encouraging young people’s involvement in blue economy sectors by offering high-quality technical knowledge and fostering their entrepreneurial spirit.

Through the specific theme courses, workshops and working labs offered, the Summer School will be taught by – though not restrictively – Blue Growth Community high-qualified professors and well-renowned experts coming from different universities and sub-sectors of the blue economy. The courses will provide updated contents and curricula, supporting the upgrade of workers skills for a better adaptation to job markets expectations, hence helping bridge the current qualifications discrepancy in the marine and maritime sectors. Among others, the themes covered will include relevant topics linked to Blue Growth in the Euro-Mediterranean region such as blue energy, global sustainability, maritime surveillance, fisheries and aquaculture, yachting, coastal and maritime tourism, maritime transport, etc.

The Summer School intends to serve as a landmark for the Blue Growth Community in the Mediterranean Region and beyond. It will be an excellent occasion for participants from different countries and backgrounds to gain an updated overview and a better understanding of the sector state-of-the-art, challenges and opportunities in an outstanding international context. Also it will support Blue Growth by developing collaborative work, networking actions and positive synergies to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in blue economy sectors, while fostering relations with territorial stakeholders for a better governance of the Mediterranean. All actions will eventually contribute to the socio-economic development of the Mediterranean area, in line with the purpose of other emerging strategies/initiatives at EU and Mediterranean levels.
