As part of the Interreg MED 2014-2020 strategic innovation project “BLUE BIO MED”, ART-ER organized a series of 3 online multi-stakeholder workshops on innovation in sustainable aquacultureon 28thSeptember, 13th and 25th of October 2021.
BLUE BIO MED aims to develop a governance model of innovation policies to tackle complex challenges. Their objective was to test the innovative approach through policy experiments triggering the cooperation of the quadruple helix stakeholders for interregional innovation investments. Four “policy experiments” have been organized on commonly identified challenges, such as aquaculture, collecting inputs for a more general innovation approach.
Plan Bleu, represented by Dr Céline Dubreuil, played a key role in the “policy experiment” related to aquaculture organized by BLUE BIO MED by introducing the key challenges of aquaculture during the first workshop (28/09/21) and by presenting an overview of the aquaculture sector in the Mediterranean (on 4 aspects: Governance, Social, Environment and Economic) during the 2nd workshop (13/10/21) and by presenting an overview of the aquaculture sector in the Mediterranean (on 4 aspects: Governance, Social, Environment and Economic) during the 2nd workshop (13/10/21). This participatory workshop aimed to establish a common ground and a common vision on the challenges of sustainable aquaculture in the Mediterranean among the participants. The last workshop aimed to facilitate dialogue on 3 innovation levers: Technical innovation, Innovation through cooperation and knowledge-related innovation; as well as to create new networks with participants interested in developing projects in the future.
You can find the final report of the Policy Experiment related to aquaculture here.
Making this sector environmentally and economically sustainable is one of the main challenges for the future of aquaculture. Within this context, Plan Bleu is currently finalizing a roadmap for sustainable aquaculture in the Mediterranean (More information here).
