We are pleased to announce the launch of ARTEMIS, an ambitious project co-funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Program , dedicated to the restoration of Posidonia seagrass meadows in the Mediterranean Sea.
This project brings together 10 partners and 3 associated partners, providing crucial multidisciplinary expertise for its success. ARTEMIS runs from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026. The main objective of the project is to accelerate the restoration of Posidonia seagrass meadows and restore their vital ecosystem and ecological services in the Euro-Mediterranean area, by combining technical innovations at 4 pilot sites, financial solutions, and policy integration for effective and sustainable restoration.
The ARTEMIS project addresses technical, financial, valorization, and governance challenges to restore Posidonia seagrass meadows in the Mediterranean. As the lead partner, Plan Bleu coordinates the project, leveraging its expertise in socio-economic analysis and ecosystem restoration. Plan Bleu also coordinates WP4 on governance and policy integration of the results.
The total budget of the project amounts to 3 million euros, mainly funded by the Interreg Euro-MED program.
The expected results of the project are:
- Effective restoration of seagrass meadows
- Practical tools for stakeholders
- Guides for integrating their values into the economy
The main beneficiaries of these advancements will be public authorities, research centers, NGOs, businesses, and tourism agencies, who will benefit from the environmental, political, and socio-economic impacts of the project.
