The Interreg MED Biodiversity Protection Community presented the « Declaration on Ecosystem-based approaches for biodiversity protection and management in the Mediterranean » at the EU Parliament in Brussels on 4 5 December 2018, in collaboration with the Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas Intergroup (SEARICA).
The Declaration, featured at the Mid term workshop and public hearing of the community, is a consensus statement towards understanding and managing transboundary and cumulative impacts in Mediterranean Ecosystems. It summarises state-of-the-art knowledge compiled from 11 thematic projects and 200 partner organisations concerning threats and pressures in the Mediterranean. It also highlights a series of principles to guide future joint actions towards more effective and transnational management of key ecological assets that are grounded on a holistic and ecosystem based approach.
Adressing various sectors in society, from public, national and regional authorities to research and academic institutions, NGOs and the private sector, the declaration will be signed during the final PANACeA Conference in Malaga in October 2019.
In the meantime, you can help us to give the Declaration a stronger voice and greater visibility by becoming a declaration supporter, sending an email to [email protected] to join our community and its collective message.
We also encourage you to share it and foster support from members, networks, and leaders of your communities to address the challenges faced by the mediterranean biodiversity.
