Plan Bleu, Regional Activity Centre of the Mediterranean Action Plan/United Nations Environment Programme and the French Embassy in Croatia are pleased to announce the organization of a workshop on MED 2050 Transition Pathways on March 25-26, 2025 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. This event will bring together key stakeholders and Croatian experts to discuss strategic issues related to sustainable development.
MED 2050 forsight exercise, launched in 2019 at the request of the signatory countries of the Barcelona Convention—amidst a rapidly increasing number of threats to the Mediterranean—aims to achieve three main objectives by 2050:
– Anticipate changes in Mediterranean ecosystems (particularly marine ecosystems) over the next three decades and determine the conditions necessary for their long-term protection;
– Provide valuable insights for transitioning the Mediterranean region towards sustainable development, essential for the protection of these ecosystems;
– Identify major risks of crises or disruptions and prevent those that could have a significant negative impact on the two previous objectives.
This workshop marks an important phase of the exercise, focusing on the “transition pathways.” Participants will analyze two selected MED 2050 scenarios to identify priority actions to be implemented in the short, medium, and long term. The goal is to move towards the desired scenario while preventing the realization of the less favorable one.
The one-and-a-half-day discussions will conclude with a summary and recommendations regarding public policies and possible action levers to be mobilized.
