Mediterranean forests:Towards a better recognition of the economic and social value of goods and services through participative governance
The purpose of this document is to raise awareness of the national summary documents completed as part of Components 2 and 3 of the FGEF project, and to present a summary of the outputs at regional level in order to highlight the utility of a regional approach and to promote the fundamental link between the two themes of these two components:
√ It is vital, through economic assessment, to increase the visibility of the contribution of the goods and services produced by Mediterranean woodland areas for populations but also for society as a whole. However, this can only be achieved through the active involvement of these populations in the management of these areas through participatory processes.
√ Establishing a mode of governance where managers involve local stakeholders, beneficiaries and users in a participatory process to promote the rights and obligations of all, will significantly contribute to the multi-functional, integrated and sustainable management of these areas.
This document was compiled from all the studies and reports produced as part of this project, along with working meetings and site visits.
This document includes:
- Presentation of the main results from pilot site studies:
Assessment of the socio-economic value of the goods and services provided by Mediterranean forest ecosystems
