Climagine, co-building the coast of the future

Mediterranean coastlines are places of strategic importance, which are home to a rich diversity of ecosystems. However, they also face numerous pressures. For over twenty years, the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned that these fragile zones could be severely impacted by climate change. Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) is recognised as the best way to promote the sustainable development of these vulnerable spaces and it now fully incorporates this issue. However, the participatory nature of ICZM means that it faces a major challenge in order to give stakeholders the tools they need to coplan their territory while taking into account the impacts of climate change. A new method has been developed to meet this need, known as Climagine.

Towards a multi-scale coastal risk index for the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean region is a climate change “hot-spot”. Investigating the role of climate and non-climate drivers on coastal zones is vital to understand the underlying risks and identify appropriate response measures. The multi-scale coastal risk index methodology proposed allows a scientifically sound detection of the coastal hot-spots.

Contributing to successful adaptation to climate change in Mediterranean coastal areas

This Policy Brief is based on the results of the regional workshop "Adaptation to climate change in mediteranean costal zones: is current decision making process adapted to mainstream adaptation options?", organized by Plan Bleu and ACTeon in May 2016, in order to highlight the main constraints and factors for succes in order to adress those challenges.
