Fish Forum 2018 - Side-event "Promoting co-management as innovative tool for the sustainable use of coastal and marine natural resources"

The Fish Forum 2018 (Forum on Fisheries Science in the Mediterranean and Black Sea), the first event of its kind in the Mediterranean and Black Sea region, was held in Roma, Italy, on 10-14 December 2018 and encompassed oceanographic, social science and economic perspectives on fisheries research.

It therefore reviewed leading work that has been carried out, while also addressing the pillars for the development of fisheries science. It also took stock of progress made mainly towards achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14, on the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources, as well as other intrinsically interrelated SDGs, such as SDG 5 on gender equality, SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth and SDG 13 on climate action.

In this framework, the Biodiversity Protection Community featured by the Interreg Med PANACeA organized on 10 December 2018 a side-event called "Promoting co-management as innovative tool for the sustainable use of coastal and marine natural resources". This workshop aimed at promoting co-management practices as an efficient and promising innovative tool for the sustainable development and use of marine natural resources in the Mediterranean region.
