Plan Bleu 2024: Shaping the Mediterranean of tomorrow

2024 was a pivotal year for Plan Bleu. It saw the launch of the 2024-2025 work programme, which introduced new priorities such as the blue economy and sustainable tourism, as well as the completion of the MED 2050 foresight report, a major collective effort outlining several scenarios for the future of the Mediterranean by 2050. The year was also marked by the start of the revision of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (2026-2035), the publication of new MedECC reports on climate risks and the water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus, and significant progress in sustainable water management, ecosystem restoration, urban resilience, and the adaptation of tourism to climate change. These achievements reaffirm Plan Bleu’s role as a key player in Mediterranean cooperation on environment and sustainable development.
