Water Security and Resilience in Mediterranean Coastal Zones

On 12 February 2026, UNESCO headquarters in Paris hosted the 6th Steering Committee meeting of the MedProgramme project focused on Mediterranean coastal zones, with an emphasis on water security, climate resilience, and habitat protection.

The meeting reviewed the project’s key achievements and approved the work plan for 2026. Major actions include developing a coastal monitoring framework, implementing a participatory approach to support national integrated coastal management strategies, and transforming scientific data into sustainability indicators.

This milestone marks a decisive step towards the operational closure of the project by the end of 2026, with a focus on ensuring the sustainability of results and a long-term impact on Mediterranean coastal ecosystems.
