The Journalists’ Workshop in Tunis: Media in Service of Sustainability

From December 2 to 5, 2024, Plan Bleu participated in a workshop organized in Tunis by Africa 21, bringing together around twenty journalists from North Africa. This strategic event provided an opportunity for Robin Degron, Director of Plan Bleu, to present the 10 key sustainable development indicators for the Mediterranean, which will guide the revision of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (2026-2035). These indicators address critical issues such as: demographic dynamics, plastic pollution, and the effects of climate change on water resources and agriculture.

Robin Degron also highlighted Plan Bleu’s work on fundamental themes: sustainable water management, ecological transition, and sustainable tourism. These initiatives are part of a broader context where the urgency of climate change demands accelerated adaptation.

Beyond institutional aspects, the workshop also shed light on the geopolitical and economic challenges hindering the ecological transition in the region. It emphasized the central role of local stakeholders: local authorities, businesses, and NGOs who are key pillars for implementing practical solutions, such as water recycling or desalination, particularly relevant in the face of increasing water stress.

Finally, Tunisia, positioned at the crossroads of the Eastern and Western Mediterranean, proved to be the ideal location for these discussions. The workshop strengthened regional cooperation and highlighted concrete solutions for the sustainable management of natural resources, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Following the discussions and interviews with Robin Degron, you can now access:
