Gathered in Brussels in 2018, representatives of European and Mediterranean institutions active in biodiversity protection and management science, practice and policy released a Consensus Statement towards understanding and managing transboundary and cumulative impacts in Mediterranean ecosystems and adopting ecosystem-based approaches for biodiversity protection and management. One of the outcomes of this statement was the Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Declaration, supported by the Interreg MED Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Community.
