Plan Bleu at the UNESCO International Symposium “Coastal Aquifers, Sustainable Futures”

On 10 and 11 February 2026, UNESCO Headquarters in Paris hosted the International Symposium “Coastal Aquifers, Sustainable Futures”, dedicated to the future of coastal aquifers in the face of climate and anthropogenic pressures.

On this occasion, Plan Bleu contributed to the technical session entitled “Knowledge Management and Tools for Integrated Coastal Aquifer Management”, which focused on knowledge management and tools supporting an integrated approach to coastal aquifer management.

Éloïse Leguérinel took part in the panel alongside representatives from UNESCO-IHP, PAP/RAC – UNEP/MAP, Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med) as well as the Ministries of Environment and Water of Albania and Lebanon.

Her presentation highlighted how the Climagine workshops create a meaningful bridge between scientific production, public policies, and field practices. In particular, she emphasized the capacity of this approach to translate scientific data on the impacts of climate change on coastal aquifers and groundwater into concrete adaptation and management actions, co-designed with decision-makers and stakeholders.
