Escale à Sète 2026: Plan Bleu engaged in environmental governance

As part of Escale à Sète 2026, a major Mediterranean maritime heritage event, Plan Bleu took part on April 2 in a day dedicated to the environment, organized in partnership with IFREMER.

On this occasion, Samson Bellières, Project Officer at Plan Bleu, contributed to the roundtable discussion “Governing the land-sea interface: collecting, modeling and analyzing the ocean to act at the local scale.”

Data, cooperation and local action

This intervention highlighted Plan Bleu’s mandate and actions, particularly through the Mediterranean Regional Observatory, which contributes to monitoring the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD 2016–2035).

Discussions emphasized the strategic importance of data and modeling, especially when grounded in local contexts and closely connected to stakeholders. They also underlined the need for multi-level governance based on strong cooperation between institutions, researchers, local authorities, and civil society.

By linking maritime heritage promotion with strengthened environmental governance, Plan Bleu continues its commitment to advancing a shared vision for a sustainable Mediterranean.
