The Euromed-IHEDN association, which aims to promote better knowledge of the Euro-Mediterranean region as well as the deepening of international relations in this area, organized in Marseille and Paris, on January 14 and 15, the first Meetings 2020 of the 2019/2020 cycle.
Elen Lemaitre-Curri, director of Plan Bleu, was the guest of these meetings which had the theme “New Plan Bleu, ten years later…”. In front of a concerned and active audience, Elen Lemaitre-Curri presented the work of Plan Bleu, but also the Barcelona Convention, the Mediterranean Action Plan, its protocols and action plans, as well as the Mediterranean strategy for sustainable development 2016-2025.
Elen Lemaitre-Curri then highlighted the pressures and vulnerabilities of the Mediterranean region: coastal urbanization, marine litter, insufficient water resources, dependence on food imports, high differences in living standards, global warming and its impacts on biodiversity, health, coastal risks, etc., while proposing possible solutions: pooling and capitalizing on experience and expertise, developing the science-policy-society interface, integrating policies on the territories.
Finally, she presented MED2050, the new prospective exercise on which Plan Bleu is currently working, as well as the main publications to be published in 2020, including the 2019 report on the state of the environment and development in the Mediterranean and the Assessment report on the impacts and risks of climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean.
