A new UN Environment - GEF Partnership in the Mediterranean to Enhance Environmental Security

Executing partners of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Mediterranean Sea Programme (MedProgramme): Enhancing Environmental Security held their first meeting on 17 to 19 May 2017, in Athens Greece. The international conference « What solutions for the Mediterranean? » was held on the 23rd February 2017 in the Ministry of Environment in Paris. Gathering 200 representatives of the 21 Mediterranean-rim countries, this conference follows the « Solutions for the Mediterranean » initiative to recapture marine ecosystems that was launched in 2016 by Ségolène Royal, Minister of the Environment, the Energy and the Sea, in charge of international relations on climate.

18th Meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD) Steering Committee

The Steering Committee of the MCSD held its 18th meeting on 18 and 19 January 2017 in Athens, Greece. The participants discussed the progress in activities related to the implementation and monitoring of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development 2016-2025, which was adopted at the 19th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, as a strategic guiding document for all stakeholders and partners to translate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the regional, sub-regional and national levels.

On the 16th of January 2017, a working meeting was organised in Malaga, Spain, by ETC-UMA and PANACeA partnership, including Plan Bleu. PANACeA is a regional initiative of streamlining management efforts in Protected Areas for an enhanced Protection in the Mediterranean Sea.
