Activity Report 2016

2016 was marked by key events such as the COP 22 Climate Change Conference in Marrakesh and the Barcelona Convention COP19, which adopted the new Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD 2016-2025) supported by Blan Bleu, in a situation that continues to be deeply affected by migration issues and wealth inequality between Mediterranean countries.

In this context, it is crucial to emphasise the importance of implementing existing international agreements (treaties, conventions, protocols, amendments, including the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols, and major international conventions and their accompanying documents) and international commitments (Aichi, UN 2030 Agenda) and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the regional, sub-regional and national levels.

Plan Bleu contributes in its own right to these goals as one of its primary missions is to provide the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention with data, statistics, indicators and assessments
on the environment and sustainable development in order to support their actions and their policymaking process.
