Marseille, 20-21 October 2016 : Co-organised by Plan Bleu and UNEP/MAP MEDPOL, this workshop aims to address the scientific needs to support the implementation of IMAP (Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Programme of the Mediterranean Sea and Coast) on Pollution at regional and national levels.
Further to the decision IG. 22/7 of COP19 of the Barcelona Convention in February 2016 adopting the Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Programme of the Mediterranean Sea and Coast (IMAP), the objective of this workshop is to address the scientific needs to support the implementation of IMAP on Pollution at regional and national levels.
Co-organised by Plan Bleu and UNEP/MAP MEDPOL, this workshop was held in Villa Valmer, Marseille, on the 20-21 October 2016.
The workshop was held back to back with the Meeting of the Ecosystem Approach (EcAp) Correspondence Group on Pollution Monitoring (CORMON Pollution). Joining the two events enabled to gather scientific researchers invited by Plan Bleu for the SPI workshop, scientific experts designated by governments of Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention to participate to the COMON, and staff of the relevant UNEP/MAP components.
This workshop is the second after the inception workshop on SPI held at Sophia Antipolis, France, on December 15-16th, 2015 (see the report of the workshop). Thus the work method consists to build on the results of the inception workshop, to go further on the IMAP scientific gap analysis and related research needs, focusing on the EcAp Ecological Objectives 5 (Eutrophication) and 9 (Contaminants), in order elaborate practical actions addressing these needs. Main workshop working documents : Provisional annotated agenda (the agenda for the SPI workshop correponds to the item 6) Enhancing the Science Policy Interface in the Mediterranean for marine pollution based on ecosystem approach.
