On February 24, 2021, the results of the 4 Start-up Actions will be presented, including BlueBoatsMed managed by Plan Bleu. Coordinated by Lina Tode, this project addresses foresight on cruises, recreational boating and yachting, their potential for transition to a blue economy in the Mediterranean and the associated environmental challenges. In a participative approach, involving NGOs, the private sector and the scientific community, the project was organized around brainstorming workshops and led to the drafting of a short foresight report. The results will be presented on February 24 during a dedicated session of the closing conference of the overall BLUEMED initiative.
More generally, the closing conference will focus on the most relevant results of BlueMed CSA. After intense collaborative work, the Mediterranean countries will present the process and results of the Pilot Initiative for a Healthy and Plastic Free Mediterranean Sea to tackle the problem of marine litter. BlueMed’s participatory cooperation process between countries first led to a strategic research and innovation program, then approval of the implementation plan. These tools are designed to serve future activities: Joint Strategic Actions will be presented at the conference. BlueMed StartUp Actions, which worked on different topics but all within the BlueMed perspective, will engage in a conversation and present their studies. The Young BlueMed Ambassadors will share their experiences and thoughts and engage in dialogue with their colleagues from other Basins, with the aim of building future common paths, in the spirit of co-responsibility of the One Planet-One Ocean approach. The event will be organized in a lively and engaging way, using dedicated tools to foster the active participation of all participants.
The MAP program of work provides that Plan Bleu continues to work on regional instruments for sustainable tourism, including possible guidelines, in particular in the cruising and yachting sectors. A set of ongoing projects participate in this reflection which is also fed by the Regional Action Plan for Sustainable Consumption and Production, the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management, the SAP BIO and the Regional Plan on Marine Litter.
