2016 Forum of Marine protected Areas in the Mediterranean

From 28 November to 1st December 2016, Plan Bleu took part in the 2016 Forum of Marine protected Areas in the Mediterranean, organized in Tangier, Morocco, by MEDPAN, RAC/SPA and the Haut Commissariat aux Eaux et Forêts et à la Lutte Contre la Désertification . Gathering about four hundred participants,this second Forum of Mediterranean MPA, was an opportunity for a mid-term assessment (4 years before the 2020 deadline) of the implementation of the Roadmap.

Workshop on Science Policy Interface (SPI) strengthening in the field of Marine Protected Areas and Marine biodiversity in the Mediterranean

Organised by Plan Bleu, the Workshop on strengthening the Science Policy Interface (SPI) in the field of Marine Protected Areas and marine biodiversity in the Mediterranean was held in Tangier, Morocco, on 28 November 2016 and was backed to the 2nd Forum of Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas. The association of the two events allowed the scientific experts, the managers of marine protected areas and the policy-makers to propose concrete solutions to meet the scientific needs.

Marseille, 20-21 October 2016 : Co-organised by Plan Bleu and UNEP/MAP MEDPOL, this workshop aims to address the scientific needs to support the implementation of IMAP (Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Programme of the Mediterranean Sea and Coast) on Pollution at regional and national levels.

Mediterranean experts meet towards an integrated approach to marine and coastal pollution monitoring

The Ecosystem Approach Correspondence Group on Pollution Monitoring (CORMON) met in Marseille, France, from 19 to 21 October 2016, with the participation of over 60 national representatives and experts in the Mediterranean. Co-organized by the UNEP/MAP MED POL programme and Plan Bleu, the meeting was focused on Contaminants (EO9) and Eutrophication (EO5).

Taking opportunity of the organization of the technical workshop on “How to monitor the MSSD 2016-2025 implementation and the Regional Action Plan on SCP in the Mediterranean?” (Barcelona, 17th October 2016), the UNEP/MAP-Barcelona Convention Coordinating Unit and Plan Bleu decided to organize, back to back, the SIMPEER first technical meeting on the 18th October 2016 in Barcelona.

MedECC scoping workshop "Towards an improved scientific assessment of climate change and its impacts in the Mediterranean Basin"

Plan Bleu and Labex OT-Med co-organized the MedECC scoping workshop "Towards an improved scientific assessment of climate change and its impacts in the Mediterranean Basin", that took place in Aix-en-Provence, France, on October 10-12, 2016. The goal was to produce a detailed outline of the first MedECC report on climate and environmental change issues of importance for policymakers in the Mediterranean region.

Regional workshop on ecosystem services provided by Mediterranean wetlands

Sophia Antipolis (France), 19 September 2016: This workshop aimed to highlight the ecological importance of Mediterranean wetlands, the critical role they play in maintaining many natural cycles and supporting biodiversity, through the presentations of various case studies. Final results of the Med-ESCWET project were presented.

General Assembly 2016

Plan Bleu's General Assembly 2016 held in the premises of CIHEAM, in Paris, on 2nd June 2016. The activity report 2015 and the financial reports 2015 were presented to the Association’s members. The General Assembly also elected a new Bureau.
