Side event on Ecosystem based Management in the Mediterranean - CBD COP 14

As part of the PANACeA project, of which Plan Bleu is a partner, a side-event was organized in the framework of the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 14), held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, from 17-29 November 2018.

Co-organized by the Union for the Mediterranean and the MED Biodiversity Protection Community, the side-event was held on 27 November 2018, in English and Arabic.

It focused on Ecosystem-based approaches to managing transboundary and cumulative impacts in the Mediterranean Sea,  with three objectives:

  1. Present the major types of transboundary impacts, including Marine Pollution and Climate Change;
  2. Highlight the additional benefits of EBM to address transboundary impacts more effectively compared to other tools (MPAs,...) supporting  regional Strategies and processes (MSP, ICZM,...);
  3. Build further cooperation on utilising ecologically coherent management units that represent functional boundaries of ecosystems, and present potential tools and ongoing processes to more effectively address such transboundary impacts on biodiversity.
