Mediterranean forests:Towards a better recognition of the economic and social value of goods and services through participative governance

The purpose of this document is to raise awareness of the national summary documents completed as part of Components 2 and 3 of the FGEF project, and to present a summary of the outputs at regional level in order to highlight the utility of a regional approach and to promote the fundamental link between the two themes of these two components.

The forests of these countries contribute to combating poverty, the socio-economic development of rural areas, food security, and cultural and recreational heritage. However, these studies are important because forest management strategies do not necessarily seek to optimise the value of forest goods and services, whether locally by local users, nationally by other economic sectors that benefit from them, or internationally by international carbon credit funds.
