Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean: State of Play and Strategic Directions

Inherent societal characteristics and the exponential development of the tourism sector are generating a need for a dedicated set of actions to be included in Strategic Directions for Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean to be implemented by regional, national and local policymakers and stakeholders under the following shared vision: "Promote sustainable Mediterranean tourism in which visitors and hosts enjoy balanced, respectful and fruitful relationships and value the unique Mediterranean environmental, human and cultural heritage, while ensuring inclusive socio-economic development, taking into account the carrying capacity of healthy natural ecosystems, and developing complementarity between various economic activities at the tourist destination level."

Activity Report 2016

2016 was marked by key events such as the COP 22 Climate Change Conference in Marrakesh and the Barcelona Convention COP19, which adopted the new Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD 2016-2025) supported by Blan Bleu, in a situation that continues to be deeply affected by migration issues and wealth inequality between Mediterranean countries.

Project Conference "A blue economy for a sustainable development of the Mediterranean region"

In the framework of the project “A blue economy for a healthy Mediterranean - Measuring, Monitoring and Promoting an environmentally sustainable economy in the Mediterranean region” founded by the Foundation MAVA, Plan Bleu, PAP/RAC and SCP/RAC organised jointly a conference that was held in Marseille, France, on 30 & 31 May 2017.

Mediterranean wetlands: an economic valuation of their services to climate change adaptation and regulation

Half of all Mediterranean wetlands disappeared over the 20th century. They have declined to now only 18 million hectares. However, wetlands are home to some of the richest yet most threatened ecosystems on the planet. Wetlands provide many ecosystem services that promote human wellbeing.

Joint Workshop on Science Policy Interface (SPI) strengthening and Ecosystem Approach Coordination Group Meeting on IMAP scales of monitoring and assessment, including the next QSR

The meeting, that was held in Nice on 27th and 28th April 2017, allowed to share best practices, to present efforts of Contracting Parties for IMAP implementation at national scales, to encourage discussion and meeting recommendations regarding elaboration of efficient spatial and temporal scales for monitoring and assessment.

Etat des lieux du cadre juridique des PPP pour la gestion des aires protégées dans le Sud et l’Est de la Méditerranée : Les Partenariats Publics Privés pour la gestion des aires protégées

Ce rapport a pour objectif d’établir un premier inventaire des dispositifs législatifs et réglementaires nationaux relatifs aux Partenariats Publics Privés (PPP) et susceptibles d’être applicables aux Aires Protégées (AP), de recenser des pratiques réussies de recours aux PPP pour la gestion d’une AP, et de produire une première analyse sur leur potentiel de développement dans les pays du Sud et de l’Est de la Méditerranée.
