4th Steering Committee meeting of the regional project funded by FFEM on Mediterranean forests

From the 26th to the 31st of January 2015 in Rabat, Morocco, Plan Bleu co-animated the fourth Steering Committee meeting of the regional project "Optimizing the production of goods and services by Mediterranean woodland ecosystems in a context of global changes" funded by the French Global Environment Facility (FGEF), in close collaboration with the secretariat of the FAO Silva Mediterranea Committee, with whom it shares the coordination of the project.

This meeting was the opportunity for the Steering Committee members (partner countries i.e. Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey, as well as donors) to review the activities implemented in 2014:

  • implementation in the pilot sites of a methodology for vulnerability analysis to climate change,
  • regional studies on the impacts of climate change on Mediterranean forests and on adaptation measures;
  • implementation on the pilot sites of the methodology on the assessment of the value of goods and services provided by Mediterranean forest ecosystems,
  • synthesis of the regional workshop held in Tunis (Tunisia), in June 2014;
  • implementation in the pilot sites of the methodology on methods and tools for participatory approaches;
  • study on the causes of forest degradation and deforestation in the project’s pilot sites in view of developing mechanisms for financing efforts to reduce degradation.

The next steps and implementation means (timing, coordination and partnerships, budget) were also be discussed.
