20th Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention

The 20th ordinary meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols, held in Tirana, Albania, on 17-20 December 2017, allowed the Contracting Parties to discuss the progress achieved in the implementation of the programme of work for the 2016-2017 biennium and make policy decisions on activities to enhance environmental protection and sustainable development in the Mediterranean.

Regional Stakeholder Conference on the Blue Economy

The Regional Stakeholder Conference on the Blue Economy organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Naples, Italy, on 29th and 30th of November 2017, brought together over 400 key stakeholders in order to consolidate a Mediterranean blue economy community working on sustainable development solutions for the region, as well as to create partnerships and initiatives to harness the potential for blue growth.

Mediterranean of the future - Act 1: A common commitment for the climate change agreements

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region hosted on Tuesday November 21st, 2017, at the Villa Méditerrannée in Marseille, the first edition of an international event on the "Mediterranean of the future" topic. This first edition entitled "Act 1: A common commitment for the climate change agreements" gathered more than 400 people: ministers and local authorities' managers, experts and scientists, civil society representatives and non-governmental organizations.

Community Building workshop of the MED biodiversity protection Community

On 25th October 2017, Plan Bleu and the five institutions members of PANACEA project organized a workshop opened to the members of the MED Biodiversity Protection Community in Barcelona (Spain). The objective was allowing the thematic projects to identify their political targets and the possible actions in order to reach them.

Knowledge sharing event: "Bridging the Science-Practice-Policy Gaps in Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection"

Plan Bleu, member of the PANACEA Project, participated to the organization of the knowledge sharing event "Bridging the Science-Practice-Policy Gaps in Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection" held in Barcelona (Spain) on 23 & 24 October 2017. The objective of this event was to gather experts on and the members of the 9 thematic projects of the MED Community on Biodiversity protection, and to discuss on past and ongoing initiatives in the Mediterranean, on difficulties encountered when looking for data, as well as possible strategies to fill the science-practice-policy gaps.

2nd MED Community building workshop on Sustainable tourism

In the framework of the BleuTourMed project (Horizontal project from the Interreg MED 2014-2020 Programme, co-funded by the European Fund for Regional Development), Plan Bleu participated in the organization of the 2nd MED Community building on Sustainable tourism on 4th & 5th October 2017 in Athens (Greece). This workshop was the occasion for the community to to share their methodologies, to identify their priorities for a transition toward responsible and sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean region and to commit themselves around a joint declaration.

International workshop Water and Climate

Plan Bleu took part in the International workshop Water and Climate on ‘Ecological engineering and climate risks’ organized in Paris, from 20th to 22nd of September 2017, by Seine-Normandy water agency with the French Development Agency (AFD). This event aimed to mobilize public and private actors and to help them to have a better understanding of these alternative and complementary conventional solutions.

Launch of PANORAMED, the new political forum for the Mediterranean

From 27th to 28th of September 2017, Plan Bleu took part in the kick-off meeting of the new political forum for the Mediterranean, named “PANORAMED”, organized by Spain in Sevilla. PANORAMED aims to define and implement shared policies and strategic projects in the Euro-Mediterranean area, particularly focusing on relevant themes for the area such as maritime surveillance and coastal and maritime tourism.

Mediterranean Coast Day 2017

The Mediterranean Coast Day 2017 was held in Tivat, Montenegro, on 25th September. It was celebrated under the patronage of HE Filip Vujanović (in person) President of Montenegro, Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro and UN Environment / Mediterranean Action Plan. The main theme of this year was "Protecting Our Sea".

MAP’s Focal Points meeting

From 12th to 15th September 2017, Elen Lemaitre-Curri and Jean-Pierre Giraud took part in the UN Environment/Mediterranean Action Plan’s Focal Points meeting held in Athens. Meeting of the Ecosystem Approach Coordination Group
